SAFETY ESSENTIALS & RIDE PREPARATION TIPS

Helmet

Safety approved helmets are required and should fit comfortably with the front rim 2inches above your brow.

Clothing

Moisture wicking clothing next to the skin is recommended as well as a windproof jacket. Its best to wear layers so the changes can be gradual, should the temperature vary.

Hydration

You should consume 8 – 8oz glasses of water per day in preparation for the ride. The morning of the ride consume one glass and one bottle per hour during the ride. A combination of water and electrolyte replacement drinks are recommended.

Food

A generous meal of pasta and some protein the night before is a good call as well as a healthy breakfast in the morning.

Bring light easy to access snacks such as energy bars, fruit, etc… combining carbs with a little protein will help with fluid absorption and retention. This will also help you find the zone.

Cycling Skills

·         Maintain a comfortable pace for you and try to stay with a group of similar riders in your zone.

·         Communicate with other riders – a steady pace and a straight line are key.

·         Always wait for safe conditions to pass. Use hand signals for those behind you and your voice for those in front ie: (“passing on your left” ).

·         When possible, try to warn other riders of road hazards. With the winter we’ve had, we don’t want to lose anyone to a pot hole for 127 days.

·         Please ride safely. if you see anyone struggling encourage them if anyone needs assistance call 519 857-2807.
